What TV4 says went wrong
TV4 programming director Mia Lindqvist pushed back on the idea that an AI agent had acted on its own. She said many production companies use AI in their workflows, but described the central failure here as a backup that did not work.
Lindqvist said the source material was preserved, so the season can be assembled again, though doing so will take extra time. She attributed the deletion to human error rather than AI. That does not rule out the agent’s involvement; it leaves the key detail unresolved.
The missing question
The distinction between an agent acting alone and a person making a mistake matters, but neither explains how access was granted or why the backup could not restore the files. I think that is the more consequential story than the label attached to the deletion: the production had a year’s work at stake, and its recovery plan failed.
Host Ahmed Beran met the news with humor. After Aftonbladet told him what had happened, he laughed and said he knew AI would be his downfall, and that this was only the beginning. The joke lands differently when the production still has to reconstruct a season with hundreds of people involved.
