Who qualifies
The case concerns Apple’s promotion of Siri features as a reason to buy an iPhone. To submit a claim, customers must confirm that they expected to receive a Siri feature as part of Apple Intelligence but did not get it.
Apple denies any wrongdoing. In a May statement, the company said it agreed to settle so it could focus on developing products and services for users.
The key numbers are:
The settlement applies only to customers in the United States who bought eligible models during the specified period. The payment can be as high as $95 for each qualifying smartphone, not necessarily that amount for every claimant.
How to file
Go to smartphoneaisettlement.com and select the blue File A Claim button in the upper-right corner. The site first asks whether you have a claim ID and PIN. Having those details in advance is not required.
The final page of the form requires one of two identifiers:
To find the serial number, open the iPhone’s Settings app, go to General, then About. The serial number appears near the top of the screen and consists of letters and numbers.
You can choose one of four payment methods:
Each eligible iPhone requires its own form. If you have several qualifying devices, submit a separate claim for each one. The deadline is 21 December.
The number is less simple than the headline
The $250 million figure is the settlement pool; the practical value to an individual claimant is capped at $95 per phone. That makes the number sound larger than the experience most customers will have, especially if many eligible owners file claims.
My read is that the form turns a broad product-promotion dispute into a narrow eligibility test: did the buyer expect the Siri feature, and can they tie the claim to a qualifying device? The burden is on the customer to make that connection.
What I’d want to know is how the final payment will be calculated when claims exceed the settlement’s available funds. The instructions specify the maximum, the deadline and the required identifiers, but the announcement does not make the maximum sound like a guaranteed payout. That gap matters more than the headline once customers start filing.
