Eric Schmidt’s Anthropic stake may be half Dario Amodei’s

Eric Schmidt may own an Anthropic stake worth roughly half the share held by CEO Dario Amodei, according to a report. The comparison is striking because Schmidt’s investments span several organizations and AI companies, while the available account offers no figures for either stake. That leaves the headline ratio more informative than the underlying ownership: it points to a meaningful position, but not to how much Schmidt has invested or what influence it gives him.

Schmidt’s investment network

Schmidt began investing actively in technology companies after leaving his role as Google CEO in 2011. He invests through several organizations:

Tomorrow Ventures
Innovation Endeavors Management
Hillspire, his family office

His other AI investments include Mistral, General Intuition and Reflection AI.

Schmidt and Anthropic did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

What the ratio leaves out

The reported comparison gives no absolute ownership percentages, valuation or explanation of how the stakes were calculated. I think that makes “half” a useful signal of relative scale, but a poor guide to the actual size of Schmidt’s position. Without those details, it is also impossible to tell whether the comparison says anything about his influence at Anthropic.
