What each tier gets
Google described the changes on its support page. The new lineup leaves free users with Flash-Lite, removes Pro from AI Plus, and reserves all three models for AI Pro and AI Ultra.
The audience may barely notice
Most people who use Google’s AI occasionally may not know which model answers their prompts. Experienced users make up only a few percent of the audience and are likely already paying for subscriptions, according to the report.
I think the sharper question is whether this is mainly a pricing change or preparation for a more expensive model. Google may be getting its plans ready for the larger Gemini 4 Argon, whose operation could cost more. That possibility is not confirmed, but it would make today’s tier changes look less like a simple feature cut and more like groundwork for a costlier generation.
