Meta puts MongoDB CEO in charge of its enterprise AI platform

Meta is assembling its AI products into an enterprise platform and putting MongoDB CEO Dev Ittycheria in charge of the new effort. The planned package includes Muse, Meta Business Agent, Muse API and Muse Code. The move gives Meta a way to sell businesses more than individual AI tools: it is pitching its technology stack as something organizations can put to work across their operations—and as a potential way to earn a return on its AI investment.

Meta’s enterprise pitch

Desai said AI will change how organizations of every size approach innovation, growth, customer service and day-to-day operations in the coming years. He argued that Meta can pair leading models and AI agents with experience scaling products for millions of advertisers and hundreds of millions of businesses.

Meta Enterprise Platform is meant to turn that technology into products and services organizations can adopt in their work. That is a broad promise, but the announcement, as described here, does not say how the products fit together or what businesses will be able to do with them.

A costly departure for MongoDB

Desai’s unexpected departure sent MongoDB shares down more than 17%. The company appointed Dev Ittycheria, who has held the job before, as interim CEO while its board searches for a permanent replacement.

The leadership change makes the appointment notable beyond Meta’s plans: MongoDB is now looking for a permanent CEO as its former chief takes on a new role.

I think the harder question for Meta is not whether it can bundle its AI technology, but whether businesses will find a reason to adopt the bundle as a platform. The announcement makes the case for Meta’s scale; it leaves the shape of the offer unclear.
