Meta's Muse Charm puts its AI agent in a tamagotchi-like gadget

Muse Charm gives the agent a physical form: a tiny digital avatar called Jolly inside a case roughly the size of a palm. Users can carry it in a pocket or attach it to a keychain.

A small screen displays the avatar. Users can talk to the device, while Muse is expected to handle tasks on their behalf.

Meta says the charm contains the full Muse interaction experience, including voice and avatar systems that operate in real time. To start a conversation, users touch a fingerprint sensor in the corner of the case. No phone unlock or app launch is required.

For people who do not wear glasses, Zuckerberg said Muse Charm will be the fastest way to talk to Muse and show it what is happening around them.

The tamagotchi strategy

The form factor is deliberate. Muse Charm is a light gadget with its own character, closer to a tamagotchi than to a conventional assistant speaker. That gives Meta a way to make an AI agent feel continuously present without requiring a phone screen.

The device also gives Meta a way to explore AI wearables and put Muse in front of more people. I think that is the more important part of the announcement: the charm is not just a container for an avatar, but a test of whether an AI agent can become a persistent object in someone’s daily life.

The announcement is quiet about the things that would determine whether that idea travels beyond a novelty: price, battery life and how reliably Muse can act on a user’s behalf. For now, Muse Charm looks less like a finished product than a physical experiment in making software feel like a companion.
