Mistral AI launches Voxtral 3 for voice agents that take action

Mistral AI has introduced Voxtral 3, a voice-agent platform designed to listen, reason and respond in real time. Its agents can also act on external systems during a conversation, such as booking meetings or checking invoices. Mistral says customers can run the platform on their own infrastructure or use APIs hosted in the EU, and prices transcription from $0.0035 per minute.

Voice that can take action

The notable claim is not just that Voxtral 3 can hold a conversation. It can carry out tasks in other systems while the conversation is happening. That puts the product closer to an operational interface than a voice layer that only answers questions.

Mistral presents two deployment routes: self-hosting, or APIs hosted in the EU. Both are framed around keeping control of data, though the announcement does not specify what that control entails for each option.

The open question is execution

The listed transcription price starts at $0.0035 per minute, but the announcement gives no comparable pricing for the broader agent workflow. I think the more important test is how reliably Voxtral 3 can act on a request while keeping the user informed about what it has done. The examples—booking meetings and checking invoices—make that capability sound useful, but they do not establish how far it extends.

Mistral has published further details in its documentation. Until the scope and cost of those actions are clearer, Voxtral 3’s pitch rests less on the price of transcription than on whether voice can become a dependable way to operate external systems.
